Social Networking Sites

Don't really want to sound too bias, it feels so awkward using twitter for the first time. However, having said this, Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn/Instagram provides same sense of new media community. Judging from social perspective, they offer so much similarities, same idea of social interaction that helps link people together....Being one of social media pioneers, Facebook has more wide-range options and flexibility in terms of what people can do especially when it comes to sharing, adding or post comments. Depending on what you're trying to do or accomplish, you can convey almost anything on Facebook and people will subscribe to it. On the other hand, other networking sites like Twitter/LinkedIn and Instagram may be considered as "niche media" in the sense that they try to appeal to certain group within the larger one. For instance on twitter, you'll see mostly the public figures and celebrities with higher numbers of followers. I mean, this is not to say that regular people are not on twitter but community tend to react or response to what they have to tweet quicker, as to normal folks. Also for LinkedIn, it's mostly for corporations and professionals. You don't want to imagine someone on LinkedIn posting stuff they do or the experience they had in a friend's party, rarely would you see that; instead, you'll see people showcasing their area of expertise. Another major difference between these sites and Facebook is that they can subconsciously control what people can do. On twitter, you're restricted to 140 letters. On LinkedIn, you don't have to be told things you need to post by the time you see what others are posting; otherwise, no one respond to you. Lastly on Instagram, it's mainly for photo and video-sharing. On a personal note, I believe they all provide same networking services and share same platform. As long as you can share, comment, post or even view people's status, it's called social networking.
